Free Pancakes Today--Is it Worth it?

Today is FAT Tuesday, and to celebrate, IHop is giving away a free shortstack of pancakes. Before you get all excited and run out for free pancakes, let me give you some facts. According to The Daily Plate one buttermilk pancake has 110 calories. That may not seem like much, but that is only ONE pancake and does not have any condiments. Let's say most pancakes come in a stack of two or three. That puts us at 220 or 330 calories. Next, butter. A lot of people put butter on pancakes. Butter for one pancake is 80 calories. SO, now we are at 380 calories OR 570. Well, you cant have pancakes without syrup right? Well, just 2 oz of syrup adds a whopping 230 calories. And who actually measures syrup when putting it on the pancakes? I know I usually just dump it on. So, even if you limit yourself to 2 oz of syrup, you are looking at a tiny plate of 2 or 3 pancakes costing you 610 calories or 810 calories. Is it really worth it?? Probably not if you are trying to get healthy or lose weigh.

I challenge everyone to double check nutritional information the next time you go out to eat--BEFORE you leave the house. You might be surprised.
